Nogales K9 Team, agents find 1,100 lbs of marijuana

TUCSON – Nogales Station Border Patrol agents found more than 1,100 pounds of abandoned marijuana worth in excess of $550,000.

A Border Patrol canine team patrolling rural mountain roads east of Nogales, Arizona, found dozens of foot print impressions on a known smuggling route and tracked them to a wooded area a few miles away.

Agents from Border Patrol’s All-Terrain Vehicle team assisted in the tracking operation. Instead of finding smugglers, however, agents came upon 24 packs of marijuana hidden under brush.

After agents conducted an exhaustive search and determined the smugglers were no longer in the area, they transported the marijuana to the Nogales Station for processing in accordance with Tucson Sector guidelines.
