Silver Spur Saloon to be resurrected from the ashes with surprises

CAVE CREEK – After a devastating fire gutted the Silver Spur Saloon & Restaurant in Frontier Town last summer, demolition is now underway.

According to Marc Peagler, whose family owns Frontier Town, delays by the insurance company and finding a contractor to perform the demolition have finally been resolved so the rebuild can move forward.

Peagler said they will be utilizing as many local companies as possible and have hired Mike Larson of Larson Excavating to perform the demo while Elrod Fence has provided construction site fencing.

Plans for the new Silver Spur are currently being drawn up by local architect Greg Zimmerman and, according to Peagler, the new Silver Spur may look even more Western than the old one.

While digging around the site, they unearthed some old adobe walls as well as some Native American artifacts.

Peagler invited the public to attend the archeological digs that will be held Feb. 19, 25-26, which will also serve as a fundraiser for the Cave Creek Museum.

As the demolition is about to get underway, Peagler said they have pulled out the time capsule that was buried 45 years ago.

He said they will open it and reveal its contents on April 15 during a Prohibition Party being planned.

Peagler said they are preserving as much of the old barn wood as possible to be repurposed in the new building, while restaurant owners Dan Allen and Alisha Hopkins will continue to operate the Silver Spur.
