TUCSON – A United States Border Patrol agent was involved in a shooting incident on Friday, December 16, 2016, at approximately 8:00 p.m. The shooting occurred west of Douglas, Arizona, between the international boundary and Highway 80 near Kings Highway. A Border Patrol agent responded to a report of two possible undocumented aliens east of Kings Highway. The agent encountered two adult males and while attempting to make an arrest, one of the adult males resisted and instead fought with the agent. During the struggle, the suspect was able to gain control of his collapsible steel baton. The agent fired at the suspect from his issued handgun striking him once in the upper portion of his left leg.

The adult male suspect was treated for his injury and transported to a local Tucson area hospital for further medical treatment. He remains hospitalized and is being treated for a non-life threating wound. The agent was not injured in this incident.

The second individual fled the area but was subsequently arrested.

Charges against the two individuals are pending at this time. As a standard procedure, the agent will be placed on administrative leave.

The FBI, CBP’s Office of Professional Responsibility, and the Cochise County Sheriff’s Department are involved in the ongoing investigation. The Border Patrol is fully cooperating with this investigation.
