Rock ‘n’ Roll Arizona Marathon Announces Toad the Wet Sprocket as 2017 Headliner

Alternative rock band to perform at finish line festival celebration on Sunday, January 15

PHOENIX – November 29, 2016 – Alternative rock band, Toad the Wet Sprocket will headline the post race Toyota Rock ‘n’ Roll Concert Series at the 14th annual Rock ‘n’ Roll Arizona Marathon & ½ Marathon on Sunday, January 15, 2017. The band will perform for thousands of runners and spectators at the finish line festival at Tempe Beach Park. The concert is free and open to the public.

Toad the Wet Sprocket is a four piece band from California led by Glen Phillips (lead singer), Todd Phillips (guitarist), Dean Dinning (bassist) and Randy Guss (drummer). The band has released a total of five studio albums, which combined have sold more than four million copies and scored five radio hits. Their most current album, New Constellation was released in 2013 and includes singles, “New Constellation,” “The Moment” and ‘”California Wasted.”

“With hit songs, ‘All I Want’ and ‘Walk On The Ocean’, Toad the Wet Sprocket will be a great addition to our finish line festival,” said Nathan Kopp, Event Manager. “From the live entertainment on course to the post race concert, runners can celebrate that 13.1 or 26.2 mile challenge from start to finish.”

The event will feature two-days of running with the Rock ‘n’ Roll 5K presented by Brooks on Saturday in Tempe Beach Park and the marathon, half marathon and 10K on Sunday. Participants can take the “Remix Challenge” by running both Saturday and any distance on Sunday to earn the coveted Remix Challenge medal in addition to each race’s finisher medals.

The marathon and half marathon feature two different start lines and will take runners on a scenic tour of Scottsdale, Phoenix and Tempe. Marathoners will start in downtown Phoenix and half marathon and 10K runners on University Ave. at College in Tempe. All races will finish on Rio Salado Parkway at Ash in Tempe Beach Park.

Live bands, cheerleaders and thousands of spectators will help motivate runners to the finish line. Upon finishing, participants are invited to relax with family and friends for a special post-race concert.

Race weekend kicks off with a free Health & Fitness, where runners can find numerous vendors, showcasing the latest in running gear, sports apparel and health and nutritional information. The Expo takes place at the Phoenix Convention Center on Friday, January 13 from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday, January 14 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Expo is free and open to the public.
