On Wednesday, Kylie McKensie from Anthem won her second-round match and will play on Thursday in the quarterfinals of the US Open Junior Championships.

McKenzie won her fourth straight match having to qualify for the main draw by winning two rounds over the weekend. McKenzie beat Paula Arias Manjon of Spain on Wednesday and faced No. 5-seeded American Kayla Day on Thursday.

Kayla Day of Santa Barbara ended Kylie McKenzie’s US Open Junior Tournament run on Thursday with a 6-3, 6-2 win in the Round of 16. A qualifier into the event, the 17-year-old McKenzie won four matches before her loss, and was a quarterfinalist last year. She is coached by Lou Belken and resides in Anthem. “It was a great US Open,” she said. “It obviously didn’t go as well as I would have liked today, but I’m still grateful for the chance to play at America’s Grand Slam.”
